| August Community Service
The goal of the Baltimore Lab School, an arts-based school, providing the same extra extraordinary educational opportunity for intelligent, often gifted children with learning disabilities who are not able to achieve academic success in regular classrooms. It serves students with moderate to severe learning disabilities, ages 6 to 18 in grades 1-12. Students receive individualized reading, math, writing, spelling, and computer instruction daily. The other half of the day includes an Academic Club, the arts, science, and physical education. This year they are adding an active cooking/baking club and are in need of baking pans and coking utensils. Please bring them to the August meeting. www.labschool.org
Here is a list of what they need:
Baking sheets, muffin pans, loaf pans, cake pans, wooden mixing spoons, tongs, meauring spoons and cups and spatulas. If anyone would like to go wild, they could use a hand mixer and a food processor.

Well, I'm back from Experience! 2009 and what a week it was for Baltimore!!! The 2009 NACE Experience! was just that - and absolutely incredible experience for all who attended. We had over 20 Baltimore NACE members attend this year, which was quite an impressive amount considering the state of the economy! Words can barely describe the amazing 'experience' all of us had, but I'll try to give everyone a few highlights -
** The Baltimore Chapter won the award for Chapter Community Service Year (2008)!!!
** The Baltimore Chapter won the award for Chapter Program of the Year (2008) for last April's 'Extreme Makeover: Buffet Style'!!!
** Stephanie Bradshaw's closing Design Experience showcase was AMAZING!!! Check out the write up below for all the details.
** Dulany Noble, Gala Cloths by Dulany, won the George Zell Spirit of NACE Award!!!
** Alicia Karoll won the Caterer Member of the Year award!
I was so honored to be chosen the Caterer of the Year for 2008 by NACE. I was in excellent company of nominees, and I was honestly blown away when my name was called. Having no acceptance speech prepared I winged it as usual - think Sally Field at the Academy Awards: "You like me...you really, really like me!" I was also elected to represent NACE National as Vice Chair of the Chapter President's Council. I am so proud to represent Baltimore!!!!
I look forward to seeing all of you at the August program to recap all of the excitement and even show some conference highlights!!!
Sincerely,
Alicia Karoll

| Design Experience! 2009
Session Recap
Wednesday, July 29, 2009
The lights dimmed and the music began to play as moderator, Linwood Campbell, CPCE took the stage to begin the week’s closing session on design. This year, NACE National decided to look into the “NACE family” for a keynote speaker and chose Stephanie Bradshaw of Bradshaw Styling. Described by many as an “up-and-coming designer in the event industry” Stephanie created unique spaces and experiences for five of NACE’s most colorful members.
Interviews of each of her “clients” were taped pre-event by the talented team at Blue Sky Films. After getting to know each client more intimately, Stephanie translated each client’s personality and personal style into something our audience could relate to on many levels.
Each of the four vignettes was designed with a different budget in mind and each client was then styled to attend their own soiree. Baltimore NACE Chapter President, Alicia Karoll of the American Visionary Art Museum, opened the session with her own personal flair and was excited to attend her retro-style “Dinner & a Movie” party. Pretty paper pieces, designed by Write Style, Inc. were the icing on this very delicious cake (or should I say pie!)
Long time NACE members and Baltimore friends, Evelyn and Daniel Watson-Bey of East Hill Video were our second group of “talent” and Bradshaw Styling designed a romantic wedding anniversary event for them and their family. With custom linen and chair treatments (we loved the rosettes!) by Gala Cloths and a surprise serenade from Daniel to Evelyn (“I Believe in You & Me” by the Four Tops) there wasn’t a dry eye in the place.
The two final stages were designed for Charlotte Chapter President, Cortenay Matters, of TheSavvyBride.com. She is a true “Sex and the City” girl and her “Girls Night Out” and lounge-style event set the stage for a specialty drink and sparkly shoes to boot!
A “Bon Voyage” dinner party was styled for Kelley Freeman of Carte Blanche Events in D.C. The color palate was a delicious mix of catalope color and sea glass. Florals were hung above the table cascading down onto the long farmhouse-style table set for eight guests.
This “Experience” truly was one to inspire all of us and created a fantasy for all who attended. It would not have been possible without an incredible team of creative professionals. Many thanks to the following partners:

Dan owns and operates East Hill Video Production Company, located in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, servicing the North American continent. Most people may recognize Dan as the tall guy that always has a video camera capturing events at National Conferences, or you may know him as “Randy Jackson”, one of the judges of the 2007 “NACE Idol” fundraising event, or from his lovely wife, Evelyn, nicknamed, “NACE’s Dancing Queen” by some. Dan has two children, son Daniel Jr., twenty-seven years old, and daughter, Maedea, twenty-five years old.
Dan has been an active member of NACE since January 2002. He has served on several committees both with his two local chapters as well as nationally. Dan started an Ambassadors program and other initiatives during his tenure as VP of Membership and Membership Chair.
In the Baltimore chapter he has provided A/V support for many meetings and assists in any way where his expertise calls. He also served as Co-Chair of the Marketing committee where he generously donated his time and expertise to create five “Save-the-Date” video email clips for “UNCORKED ’07, which saw the largest attendance in the history of this sold out event. He has also produced recap videos for the internet for the UNCORKED events and meetings held for two consecutive years.
He produced Video BLOGS for the 2006, 2007 and 2008 NACE Conferences which were used by Chapters across the country in Hawaii and in South Africa to better explain what the NACE Experience! is like. Dan was also Co-Committee chair for two events during the 2008 NACE Experience Conference.
In late November of 2007 Evelyn, Dan’s wife and fellow Baltimore Chapter NACE member, was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Evelyn rose up like a phoenix and survived her battles! Thanks to the support of Dan, and prayers from, their family, and friends, they are celebrating their recent good news that, Evelyn’s Non- Hodgkin’s Lymphoma is now in remission!
Dan and Evelyn often visit other NACE chapters around the country when they are in town for business or pleasure. They have attended chapter meetings in Atlanta GA, Dallas TX, and San Francisco, CA. They travel to Baltimore each month to attend the monthly chapter meetings as well as Dan’s local Philadelphia monthly chapter meetings.

| 2009 George Zell Award won by Dulany Noble
"This award recognizes NACE members whose commitment towards humanitarianism makes a profound and recognizable impact. These individuals represent the ‘spirit of NACE”. The award is named in memory of NACE member, George Zell, who passed away in 2000. George was the quintessential NACE member, dedicated to his chapter and the national organization through leadership, volunteerism, mentoring and passion for the catering profession.”
I cannot begin to tell you how excited and honored I am to have received this award. I think sometimes we forget how very lucky we are to be working in this incredible industry. In fact, I think we all tend to forget how blessed we are in our lives and how important it is that we give back to our communities. Baltimore NACE has provided me a platform to give back to our community that reminds me how fortunate I am. In return, NACE has been generous and supportive of me, especially the Baltimore NACE chapter and my Baltimore NACE board. Thank you all, my friends in NACE, for honoring me with this very special award.
